I can’t believe it’s only been two months since I arrived here. Almost everyone at this refugee camp is so nice; sometimes I almost forget that my little brother Ashur and I had ever been alone and terrified. Before Ashur and I found another family trying to escape the war, we’d been on the verge of death. Despite my efforts and the responsibility I felt as an older sister, Ashur and I were sore and hadn’t eaten in days; we were dirty everywhere except for the streaks on our faces that had been cleaned by tears. Many of the young Syrians here have seen or been amidst tragedy and horror. This includes Ashur and me.
